Service scope

Renewing an existing card starts with identifying the permit.

This service covers renewal of an existing residence card only. It is not an initial application, company-creation process or property purchase. Filing windows and evidence vary by authorisation: renewals for employed or self-employed residence and work must be submitted before the permit expires; D.2 authorisations without gainful activity are renewed during the six months before expiry. We check your category and expiry date before setting a timetable.

How we can help

A file prepared for your specific authorisation.

Permit type and expiry

We identify your current authorisation, check its expiry date and clarify which filing window applies to that permit.

Relevant documents

We prepare a list for your circumstances. The complete document set depends on category, history and current requirements.

Consistency review

We organise supporting records and check that information and documents are current before the renewal is submitted.

Practical coordination

We coordinate agreed steps and help identify anything still to check, without anticipating the authority’s decision.

How we proceed

From expiry date to an organised renewal.

01

Review your card

You share the authorisation type and expiry date. If the permit has already expired, we individually assess the situation and what steps should be confirmed.

02

Set the timetable

We identify the filing window for your category. Not all renewals share the same submission deadline.

03

Tailor the document list

We agree which evidence is relevant to your authorisation and circumstances, including documents that may need updating.

04

Check and coordinate

We review the assembled file and coordinate agreed next steps. The competent authority makes the decision.

Initial checklist

Items we commonly review

This is not a universal checklist and does not replace the complete document list for each authorisation. It helps start a case review.

  • Current passport or identity document and existing residence card.
  • Recent photograph and the Comú residence certificate in the required form.
  • For employed work: CASS records and, for the first renewal, recent payslips.
  • For self-employment: evidence of business activity and income, together with CASS status.
  • For residence without gainful activity: insurance, income and maintenance of the investment conditions applicable to the authorisation.
  • Individual confirmation of any other evidence and proof applicable to the specific authorisation.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about residence renewal

Your permit category determines the filing window and documents. These answers are general; we review the details case by case.

When should I submit my renewal?

It depends on the authorisation. Renewals for employed or self-employed residence and work must be submitted before expiry. A D.2 authorisation without gainful activity is renewed during the six months before expiry. We first check which category you hold.

Which documents will I need?

The initial review commonly includes a current identity document, existing permit, recent photograph and the Comú residence certificate in the applicable form. The complete list depends on the permit and circumstances; it should not be treated as universal.

What is reviewed for employed or self-employed work?

For employed work, we review CASS status and recent payslips for the first renewal. For self-employment, we review evidence of business activity and income and CASS status. Exact documents are confirmed for the file.

What if I hold an authorisation without gainful activity?

D.2 renewal has a specific window during the six months before expiry. Depending on the authorisation, insurance, income and maintenance of applicable investment conditions may also need review.

Can I renew if my card has already expired?

If it has expired, contact us promptly for an individual review of the date, permit type and circumstances. Do not assume there is a grace period or that renewal is automatically approved.

Does this service cover a first residence application or a lost card?

No. This service is limited to renewing an existing card. An initial application, replacement after loss or theft, and address or administrative-status changes are separate procedures. Approval of a renewal cannot be guaranteed.
